WAITROSE APPLICATION APPROVED

Print | Email

Proposals by supermarket giant Waitrose to build a store opposite Hermitage Academy in Helensburgh have been approved.

Argyll and Bute's planning committee made the decision just after six o'clock last night following a marathon public hearing in the town.

More than 260 people attended the eight hour session in the Victoria Halls.

Planners had recommended that the application for a food store and petrol station on Cardross Road on the outskirts of the town be refused.

But after passionate speeches by residents both in favour and against, councillors gave the application the go-ahead, subject to agreement by the food chain on mitigation payments.
