When are you on the radio?

When I'm not on the radio I like to?

Be on telly, but I've got a lousy agent! Seriously, I enjoy sport, and am still fit enough to walk around a snooker table! Otherwise, I'll settle for watching cricket, football, or Stranraer FC (we'll get better - we have to)! Crosswords and now Sudoku in quieter moments.

Describe yourself in 5 words?

Tall, overweight, poor, old - and alive!

Who would play you in a movie of your life?

Precisely. Who WOULD play me in a movie of my life!?!

You're marooned on a desert island. Which three things would you take with you?

A rowing boat and two oars!

Favourite movie ever?

Not really a movie fan, but I like a good laugh. I still see new jokes every time I watch Airplane, for example

Favourite TV show ever?

TV nowadays is awful! Bring back The Old Grey Whistle Test

Favourite song ever?

The impossible question. Couldn't even give you a top 100, I like so many different styles.

Favourite place in the world?

The studio when I'm broadcasting

Best on-air moment?

Met lots of great people, but probably my best on-air moment lasted three hours - in February 2005 when Your Radio's unique show, The Vinyl Frontier, came live from the stage of the legendary Cavern Club in LIverpool.

Most embarrassing on-air moment?

You've only left one line: but there's no doubt that every time I play a wrong track (and in 36 years, it's happened once or twice!), I get acutely embarrassed.

If you could swap places with one person for a day, who would it be and why?

Tricky, because there's not a lot you can achieve in 24 hours, but let's see if George W Bush could do the Vinyl Frontier some Sunday, while I rule the world!

What's your motto for life?

Treat others as you would like them to treat you, or as it was put back in the 60s - Do as you would be done by.

And finally what would you call your autobiography?

Unfinished Business
